I took action today!

by Sam Crump on January 31, 2015

It is an incredibly beautiful day today in Sonoma County, California. About 80 degrees, and it’s the last day of January! I decided to take advantage of the weather and take action on much needed exercise. My wonderful wife, Colleen, had to work her fourth day in a row today as an RN at the local hospital — and these are 12 hour days! She leaves at 4:30 in the morning so, today being Saturday, I told her to take my car and I’d come pick it up later.

Normally I’d have our daughter take me to retrieve the car, but today I decided to walk the 5+ miles to the hospital. I’d never done that before. It took about an hour and a half. I listened to old podcasts of Cliff Ravenscraft the whole way. He is my inspiration for pursuing my passion and starting my podcast!

What a great workout and different experience. I encourage you to get out and do something new this weekend!

001 – About Bullhorn Leadership; About Sam Crump

by Sam Crump on January 29, 2015

Show Notes:

  • Bullhorn Leadership for Entrepreneurs – Episode 001
    • “Act Boldly. Communicate Effectively. and Make A Difference in Everything you do.”
    • What is Bullhorn Leadership for Entrepreneurs?
    • Bullhorn – A metaphor for being a leader. A tool that amplifies your message. Conveying direction or inspiration which then moves people into action.
    • What if a bullhorn were thrust into your hands?
    • So many people sit on their hands and don’t want to be the leader.
    • Bullhorn is a metaphor for acting boldly, communicating effectively, and achieving results (making a difference; achieving success).
  • Leadership – We hear this term a lot. We take it for granted that we know what it means. But consider that everyone is a leader. You are the Leader of yourself. You need to exercise leadership over your life and your mind/body/spirit. You may be the Leader of your family. You may be the Leader of a business. You may be the Leader at your church or synagogue. Perhaps you see a need in your community or you want to run for office.
    • The world needs leaders in every area.
    • Entrepreneurs -“a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.”
    • But entrepreneurs are not just business people, but any organizer…non-profit, a cause, a candidate for office.
    • So an entrepreneur who is a Bullhorn Leader is Acting Boldly, Communicating Effectively and Making a Difference in everything she does.
  • About me
    • In my youth and into college I was into theater and drama. My mom always wished I had gone into acting as a profession. In high school I got involved in student government and showed early signs of leadership when I became student body president. In college I was a Congressional intern and felt a calling to politics. I went on to law school simply to bolster my credentials but not really planning to practice law.
    • I joined the Army and became a military prosecutor in Germany. I learned quickly that I did not enjoy the courtroom. I was elected at age 29 to my City Council in Sebastopol, California. I later moved to Arizona and was elected to the Arizona Legislature and then re-elected. I ran for Congress in 2010 but lost in the Primary. I decided I was done being a candidate and elected official.
    • After moving back to the wine country of Sonoma County, California, I began exploring some areas outside of law. I did re-open my law practice but I also decided to finally pursue writing and public speaking. In 2014, I took action and hired a coach to help me. In four months I had written the framework for my book, Bullhorn Leadership, and it will be published this year. I also gave my first speech on the same topic.
    • I discovered Cliff Ravenscraft of PodcastAnswerMan.com and thought I was just going to learn how to podcast. However, I quickly learned that Cliff is so much more than a techie, he is really a life coach. Yes, I have learned how to launch my podcast thanks to Cliff, but I have also been inspired to pursue my passions.
    • I have been married to my wonderful wife, Colleen, for 26 years and we have four terrific kids. I am active in my church and veterans groups.
  • About the Podcast
    • This will be a weekly show for about one hour in duration. I am not a guru on business, leadership or entrepreneurialism. But I’ve done a lot of interesting things, met a lot of interesting people (who will be guests on my show!) and I seek to inspire others in their entrepreneurial journeys. I will strive to be authentic and transparent.
    • I look forward to you the listener being part of the community and sharing your experiences with me.
    • So there you have it…. Bullhorn Leadership for Entrepreneurs.
  • Until next time, remember to Act Boldly, Communicate Effectively, and Make A Difference in everything you do.
